March 22: NYC-DSA Hosts #TaxTheRich Town Halls in Manhattan, Brooklyn, & Queens
NYC-DSA organizers invite New Yorkers to learn about this year’s budget process and how we can secure the investments that meet our needs.
New York City, New York—On March 22nd, organizers with the New York City Democratic Socialists of America will host a series of borough-based Town Halls in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens for everyday New Yorkers to learn about this year’s budget and the #TaxTheRich campaign.
With the release of the Senate and Assembly’s One-House budget drafts, the State budget process is entering its final phase: three-way negotiations between Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, and Governor Kathy Hochul. At a moment of rampant inequality with New Yorkers facing a historic cost of living crisis, the stakes of the budget are incredibly high. New York is on the cusp of winning new taxes on the rich, tenant protections, freezing MTA fares, and building publicly-owned clean energy — but the fight is not over yet, and these final weeks will determine the direction the state takes over the next year.
Join us at our Town Halls in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens to learn more about how the budget process works and how working-class New Yorkers can shape it.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, please note the Manhattan Town Hall will take place virtually.
